Weave of Love- JD Design Awards 2024
Introducing ‘Weave of Love’, another classy and ethnically splendid collection by the MSC in Fashion Design student, Ct Zohmangaihi, at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore, won “The Thread of Innovation Award” at the JD Design Awards 2024. This collection has revived the handwoven Mizo puan fabric and made wedding wear made from this fabric complementary to brides and grooms. Incorporating traditional Mizo patterns with today’s western dressing while maintaining the ethnic touch, “Weave of Love” is the best portrayal of ethnic clothing level.
ILLUSTRATIONS
The “Weave of Love” collection is a necessity for the unique outfits that Mizo youth want to wear to their wedding. With the help of historians and people who work with handlooms, the designers got inspired by their cultural background and designed apparel that would give a true representation of the Mizo culture. Some of the clothes in the collection include handwoven Mizo puan fabric, which symbolizes the tribe’s tradition and has complex patterns. Thus, by incorporating those traditionally used materials for partisan changes in wedding attire, the collection plans to set up a new standard for Mizo bridal and groom wear.
The cut and style of “Weave of Love” put together western silhouettes of garments with Mizo motifs. For the male collection, it entails blazers, trousers, vests, and shirts, while the female collection features sheath apparel, mermaid apparels, and skirts. Every work is created with lots of details, and the patterns are depicted in a traditional and righteous manner. The list of recommended hues for white wedding outfits is not exhaustive and vows to hit off white, red, pink, green, black, and yellow. Due to the integration of both timeless and topical motifs, the interior is elegant, innovative, and more in line with present-day preferences.

The ‘Weave of Love’ collection is therefore rich in culture, precisely aiming at promoting and preserving Mizo culture as a theme. The exotic line of the collection is based on the traditional handwoven Mizo puan fabric with geometric patterns. Thus, using these traditional elements with modern silhouettes, the collection pays tribute to the Mizo community’s tradition while presenting the contemporary Mizo bride and groom in beautiful gowns.
In terms of fabrics and colors, the collection will have woven pure cotton, woven reishmi (polished cotton), woven acrylic, and tulle. Among these fabrics, attention is paid to the quality of the materials and their ability to reflect Mizo ornamentation. The used colors are off white, red, pink, green, black, and yellow, which is the lively or festive color of the clothing published. The garments are embroidered with Mizo traditional floral and disul patterns that give off an ethnic touch and are artistic. The Great Story of ‘Weave of Love’ is pro-Mizo culture and tradition in the real sense.
