Dichotomy in Symphony – JD Design Awards 2024

Simran Pereira is a student of BSc Fashion Design & Apparel Design (JDSD Goa) and was given the award for Experimental Collection, known as Dichotomy in Symphony. A futuristic bridal collection draws inspiration from one particular part of Swan Lake ballet.

Design Brief:

The bridal collection incorporates waste and discarded plastic in a futuristic way, inspired by one particular act in the Swan Lake ballet, The Curse of the White Swan. This collection aims to promote the reuse of plastic in an unusual and non-traditional way. The collection is inspired by this theme of the curse; it is based on our curse: plastic. A curse where the white swan is trapped in a dual existence, transforming into a swan by day under an evil sorcerer’s curse, only returning to human form at night. Discarded or waste plastic will be used in garments throughout the collection. The target audience includes brides belonging to the age group of 20–30. From the upper-class category. Brides who opt for atypical, bold, out-of-the-box, and unusual styles. Individuals who value quality and craftsmanship and who want to make a statement. The colours seen in this collection were all white, maintaining the bridal aesthetic. fabrics such as intricate lace, glossy latex, organza, tulle, and lots of feathers. The collection also had structured, futuristic silhouettes and elements like feathers will be added to maintain the correlation to Swan Lake.

ILLUSTRATIONS

In this collection, the element of ‘future’ will be added through the unusual use of plastic in the garments. Plastic waste has been on the rise, and if anything, in the future it might just get out of hand. Using plastic in garments, especially bridal wear, has never been done before. making these garments unusual and futuristic. The silhouettes used for these garments will also be futuristic and not typical bridal silhouettes. The collection is wearable in the seasons of fall and winter.
