Voyagers Vistas: A Travellers Lounge – JD Design Awards 2024
Sanjana, a student of BSc in Interior Design & Decoration at JD School of Design, Bangalore, has been awarded the JD Design Award for Best Design Strategy. Her creativity and commitment to crafting captivating and practical environments have driven her to be among the most exceptional designers for commercial applications.
ILLUSTRATIONS
For a real-life site, Sanjana envisions a futuristic vision of a hi-tech rest area named Voyager Vistas: A Traveller’s Lounge on the Highway. This ambitious initiative aims to transform the typical traveller’s journey experience with the effective use of technology while practicing sustainability. The lounge contains apparent modularity through origami-inspired furniture, which can be rearranged to accommodate different travellers’ requirements. Everything is managed through sophisticated technology: intelligent sensors, providing ideal climate control, iconic touch-activated digital screens, real-time travel information, and tailored suggestions. They incorporate green solutions in their power sources while also utilising environmentally friendly materials that have a negligible impact on the workforce.
Furniture materials such as wood and stone add to the plain and edgy look, providing the place with a cosy and calming ambience. Couches, recliners, dozers, and enough area to spread out for those that have the luxury of having many pieces of luggage, adequate facilities for pet owners and areas for pets to rest and play, buffet and bar services, and shoe shine services are provided in the lounge for weary and bored travellers. While incorporating basic requirements for functions into Sanjana’s design, she successfully turns the highway rest stop into a versatile and appealing locale that symbolises luxury, glamour, and sustainability.

The Highway Lounge, modelled by Sanjana, represents her ability to create a perfect synergy between the aesthetic and the practical to portray an interior that combines elegance and efficiency, making her receive a lot of applause from students and professionals. Her design approach centres on understanding her client’s needs and delivering more than they have requested. Rich interiors have made Sanjana introduce natural materials, including marble flooring and polished wooden furniture, to enhance the elegance and comfort of the interior design. The openness, sizable windows, and consequently, a lot of natural light in the lounge’s interiors help to create a breezy atmosphere where one can unwind in cosy armchairs and soft lighting.
