Experience Centre – JD Design Awards 2024

Vaishali Gupta is a student at JD School of Design, Bangalore, pursuing her BSc in Interior Design & Decoration. She participated in the JD Design Awards 2024 for her project, Experience Centre. This project takes a perceptive approach to sustainability, especially within the context of constantly evolving architectural design. The project Austere captures the essence of modern living, where eco-friendly practices are intertwined.

This would be Vaishali’s Experience Centre—a futuristic residential flats experience centre. The central idea driving this project was to employ advanced technology to create virtual walkthroughs and balcony views so that the residential environment could be immersed in before purchase by prospective buyers.

She wanted to go beyond the conventional, so she incorporated elements of the future that enriched the experience. Vaishali conceptualised the use of eco-friendly materials such as coconut shells, natural rocks, ropes, and pebbles. These were chosen because of the sustainable element and for their beauty. The reception table, which drew inspiration from rocks found in nature, and the partition walls made of rope and pebbles give the room a unique feel.

Advanced sunroof technology was integrated to ensure a comfortable climate inside the centre, regardless of the weather outside. The project also integrates smart home technologies to show visitors the new concept of innovative living. Interactive display and focus on connectivity to nature try to make it vibrant and enable residences for display and integration with a deep understanding of surroundings, the environment, and the community.

JDDA 2024

The theme of future fiction focuses on the design of a futuristic residence experience centre with various kinds of innovative features, one of the most exciting being a cycle unit that enables visitors to have a virtual walkthrough experience of the planned society where they intend to buy a house. The other key feature in its setup is that of the balcony, which has been created to produce the view and air pressure from various floors of the building. This can be realised in totality only when there is a glimpse of the view and feel of the air pressure, thus giving a visitor a feel of what his future living area would look like.

The Experience Centre includes LED strip lighting in the flooring, natural rock reception desks, and partition walls made of ropes and stones. Seating areas are furnished with stylish chairs and sofas,  combined with refreshment provision through a barista unit. The use of toughened glass throughout the place is intended to proclaim openness and transparency.

Advanced technology is built into the design, as pendant speakers, LED screens, and display boards engage visitors. The residential prototype model is one of the top attractions of this project and delivers an instant, self-experienced taste of the community under plan. This design brings together elements of nature with modern aesthetic elements in perfect harmony, providing a full and futuristic experience.
