Auga – JD Design Awards 2024

A new fashion world of “Auga” collections Created by Vinaa Varshini, an MSC in Fashion Design student at JD Institute of Fashion Technology Bangalore, won the “Sustainable Fashion Designer of the Year” at the JD Design Awards 2024. “Auga” looks at fashion through a sustainability lens, creating products that have both a vintage taste and a contemporary feel. It is a dress collection for people who love simplicity with a touch of modernity, seasoned with the recycling of fabrics for the earth.

Auga draws its ideas from the theme of modern classics, where designs from past decades are incorporated into present fashionable styles. Picture A-line dresses, high-waisted trousers, and peplum tops painted with images that remind people of childhood or the past. Every piece of clothing is tailored with care and attention for comfort and appearance while combining classic silhouettes with advanced fabrics and sewing methods. This combination not only gives the clothing a unique aesthetic but also adheres to the principles of sustainable fashion by recycling materials.

Auga’s mission is not confined to the outer shell but is a philosophy of sustainability. This collection has little adverse effect on the environment since it uses locally obtained recycled fabrics from wholesalers. Materials such as rayon, sheers, crepe, and organza, among others, are turned into pieces that not only depict fashion but also discourage unnecessary consumption. Pearls, cut beads, and crystal stones are added by hand to combine the aesthetics of handmade accessories with the concept of water protection and the energy of water creatures.

In line with the theme of future fiction, Auga stands for the future, whereby sustainability is of utmost importance. The collection brings out the theme that fashion is a continuum; what was in the past is in the present and will be in the future. Auga’s adherence to using as few resources as possible and minimizing fabric waste is especially important in the context of the global water shortage. This commitment to environmental preservation is reflected in the colors used, from cool colors for water bodies to warm hues that represent phases of water.

Being placed under high fashion for business and social wear, Auga targets mostly millennial women of 26–34 years of age. Young, city-dwelling, and concerned with the environment, this target audience demands clothing that is fashion-conscious and eco-responsible. In Auga’s line, they are able to provide them with a wardrobe that is both classy and environmentally friendly, appropriate for the workplace and other occasions.
