Eternix is the title of a collection that, in fact, blurs the lines between life and the afterworld while sticking to the concept of avant-garde clothing. Designed by Kavya Prakash, a student from BSC in Fashion Design at JD Institute of Fashion Technology Bangalore, won the “Future Thinking Design Award” at the JD Design Awards 2024. This wearable art represents a vision after death, in which technology creates extended life’s paradigms of memories and legacies.
The name “Eternix” itself is derived from the marvellous theme of life after death and expands this idea in the framework of the futuristic imagination. Hence, unlike many other films that portray the afterlife merely as an abstract concept, for Kavya it is a possibility that is real and influenced by technology. The collection resembles sensitive and clear at the same time, which shows the similarity of the outcome to the subject – emotions and AI. Moreover, fabrics like organza represent the transparency and frailty of human emotion compared to the metallic satin as well as the suiting fabric that can be associated with the powerful form of technological advancement. Sometimes the silhouettes are loose and graceful, at others rigid and angular: illustrating the essence of a digital civilization in which man’s spirit is changed but not extinguished.
Think of a world where we have a second life and the departed we still can communicate with them through the Internet. Drawing from artificial intelligence this group deals with the themes of identity, consciousness, and legacy. It aims at changing our perception of mortality, as it shows that death may not be the end as our spirit can be transferred into the world of technology for the future generations.
‘Eternix’ which analyzes the topic of life as interrupted by technology. People are inspired to think of a world where sciences took over and individual consciousness as well as memories are shifted to the online domain. This theme is further underlined by selecting fabrics used in the collection: Such fabrics as organza, satin, twill, mesh. Regarding the choice of fabric Organza is chosen due to the fact that the brand is devoted to the truth and The Afterlife is indeed unseen while the metallic satin reflects the constant nearby presence of AI in our lives. Twill and mesh look good and the detail is there in the representation of exposure and camouflage relationships in this future. Some scr workshops can be categorized as wearable art, and “Eternix ” includes not only imagining an eternal poster on a T-shirt but also a vision of people and their tendencies in the constantly changing world with experimenting on philosophical questions about leaving behind an unforgettable poster even for one’s relatives.
Altogether, “Eternix” by Kavya Prakash represents an interpretation of the life after death with the help of technology as the opportunity to continue life with the preservation of the human spirit. It urges us to ask questions, the answers to which question who we are or what we are here for, how after we are gone, can we continue to exist in an environment other than this one. By creating diverse designs and having a deeper meaning to the overall picture this collection raises a question on the role of high tech, spiritualism and persona in today’s society.
