Dharshna S, a student of the MSc in Interior Design at JD School of Design, Bangalore, presented her visionary project entitled “Futuristic Minimal Boutique in Metaverse” at the JD Design Awards 2024. In this futuristic concept, technology and minimalism are combined with an exquisite shopping experience in the metaverse, enabling users to buy both virtual and real-life clothing.
Dharshna’s work, “Futuristic Minimal Boutique in Metaverse,” explores the metaverse as the new frontier in fashion retail. She designed a boutique that caters to avatars and real customers of the tangible world, giving personalized attire in a space that exudes futuristic minimalism.
Inspiration for Dharshna’s project came from the very innovative Apple Vision Pro and opening up possibilities in the metaverse. Her design process consisted of research into futuristic materials and technologies that could be applied to the boutique’s concept. One will have a flawless shopping experience within the metaverse in this boutique—users can customize clothing for their avatars and order bespoke pieces for themselves in the real world.
The interior of the boutique exudes a minimalistic, sleek, and inviting feel while being visually appealing but still simple and functional. Advanced technologies for virtual try-ons and interactive displays equip this space to give shoppers a better experience.
Futuristic Minimal Boutique in Metaverse—a theme that speaks for itself in such an innovative approach toward retailing fashion. This Project Minimalism is a beacon of simplicity and efficiency, not only reflected within the design itself but from a user experience perspective. A complementary material board of this boutique will contain futuristic and sustainable materials easily accessible and eco-friendly, assuring the creation of a realistic and immersive metaverse environment. Clean lines, a neutral colour palette, and subtle lighting stress the minimalist theme in this boutique design.
This boutique was designed for versatility, and it will therefore accommodate virtual products as well as physical products, just as one would want it. In the metaverse, one could travel through space and see digital displays of all the products. Seamless transactions were developed for purchases. Bringing in the element of customisation options for both avatars and real-life clothing gave that personal touch to make the shopping experience unique and engaging. To this extent, “Futuristic Minimal Boutique in Metaverse” by Dharshna was indeed a forerunner project in testing the bounds of traditional retail. The boutique has been seamlessly able to mix technology with reduced design elements and provide a feel of what the future would be when this finally happens: fashion shopping is re-imagined from just a simple transaction to an experience.
