JD School of Design, Goa, on 19th September 2024, truly gave life to the philosophy of community service and social responsibility with a heart-warming event called “Gift of Knowledge.” Organized at Novi Survat, the centre of focus on improving the lives of families and children suffering from chronic diseases and disabilities, the event was more than just another get-together; rather it marked the beginning towards compassion and creativity intertwined into human connection.
This was a special activity wherein students of JD School of Design and Novi Survat collaborated. It was a very special event, as the entire event was fully funded through contributions, which were raised by JD students. These students used their art and design creations to further the cause. Such a charitable effort was part of the JD School of Design’s ongoing endeavours in giving back to society and enriching the lives of those who need it.
Heart of Novi Survat
Novi Survat, within the heart of Goa, joins healing with hope. This place works hard to improve the quality of life for families whose children suffer from chronic conditions and disabilities. Novi Survat utilizes several therapy techniques, neuromotor rehabilitation, and holistic care directed towards the alleviation of the relief from physical pains as well as the emotional and psychological distresses accompanying these problems. Their work is always multidisciplinary in approach in which professionals from many fields of work combine their efforts in the form of centre-based care and home care services.
It engages with both governmental and non-governmental organizations for a reason. It ensures 360° support to all the children and families whom it helps. JD School of Design’s affiliation with Novi Survat further strengthened the vision of the centre, bringing evidence of how education and art can give meaning to a change.
Artistic Joy and Connection
This event ended up focusing the light on the students at JD School of Design who organized creative activities for the children at Novi Survat. With fantastic enthusiasm and compassion, they enabled the kids to have great experiences, ranging from fingerprint drawing, clay modelling, and passing the parcel, to target shooting.
These activities not only brought joy to the children but were also therapeutic. They encouraged creativity and self-expression. For instance, fingerprint drawing allowed a world of colours and textures to engulf them, while clay modelling was an activity requiring hands-on contact to shape their imagination into reality.
The games such as target shooting and passing the parcel released energy and excitement into the day. These simple yet powerful games fostered camaraderie, joy, and laughter, creating pure happiness in the environment. In such a manner of interacting with children, the JD students were at the same time creating big smiles on their faces and giving them lessons in empathy, patience, and more importantly, the value of giving back.
The event ended with a great performance by the students who danced out with enthusiasm and joy that brought so much excitement to the children. This final act of celebration was a good way to end the day in love, creativity, and the spirit of community.
Social Responsibility Lessons
It was more than a selfless act for the students of JD School of Design-it was transformative. Kind interaction with the children and their families seemed to help them learn the most valuable lessons of humility and gratitude. The exercise highlighted the power of art and design as healing tools and agents that connect people within themselves. Through their engagement, the students learned that creativity can bridge worlds, bringing relief and joy, particularly to those most in need.
This activity also brought out the desire to get out of the classroom into real life. The students engaged in the organization, and attending the event, and learned directly about planning, collaboration, and leadership skills while contributing to a worthy cause. It was in the true spirit of designing a responsible compassionate as well as highly skilled designer.
A Lasting Contribution
Apart from the activities and performances, JD School of Design made a very tangible material contribution to Novi Survat. The school donated basic medical equipment to the centre, which will help in the treatment and care of the children. This generous donation underlines the commitment of JD towards sharing knowledge not only verbally but also practically for those in need.
This equipment will enhance the life quality of children, allowing them easier access to medical care and treatments. Such contribution reflects the core values of JD School of Design: innovation, creativity, and a sense of responsibility towards the community.
JD School of Design engages not only with the academic excellence of the children but also with social responsibility. They have equipped students who would make a difference in the world. Events like “Gift of Knowledge” testify to the holistic approach that this institution offers a child’s education creation blooms, and the spirit of giving is sowed into each child’s heart.
