“Heritage Glow”, a line conceptualized by Shreni S. and Kavya of the MSC in Fashion Design at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore, won the “Fashion for Social Change Award” at the JD Design Awards 2024. This collection is designed for the Millennials, born between 1981 and 1996. These people, in the age group of 26–34 years, have seen the advancements in technology and the need to be environmentally conscious. ‘Heritage Glow’ combines Kasuti art embroidery with biker jackets to come out with trendy and utilitarian wear suitable for the modern elite, sustainable millennial.
I believe that “Heritage Glow” is suitable for the themes of sustainable and modern fashion. This step was done carefully when deciding where the embroidery would be placed to avoid overloading the jacket. Thus, the designers used the correct balance of colours and proper stitching to enhance both the embroidering and the jacket. For the illumination of the embroidered words, they employed glow threads, which make the embroidery visible at night. Think of cycling at night and wearing a jacket that has amazing patterns that light up, making you fashionable and safe.
The idea is quite basic yet profound. In this case, the designers successfully combined the intricate craft of Kasuti with the toughness of a biker jacket. The glow threads are incorporated in areas such as the back panel, sleeves, and collar to give light to the detailed embroidery. This not only makes the car look great, but it also helps because it is easier to see at night. Indeed, “Heritage Glow” represents the spirit of adventure blended with the pride of culture and powered by technology.

All the materials used were chosen to withstand the embroidery process as well as the jacket, thereby providing durability for the wearer.
The starting fabric choice of “Heritage Glow” can consist of polyester (100%) and leather to facilitate durability and comfort. Other items include zippers, buttons, draw cords, glow threads, and elastic to enhance its usage and design. The colors chosen for the Kasuti embroidery are black, blue, grey, and green, which is a modern, versatile color that blends well.
