Levitating Winter Wonderland – JD Design Awards 2024

Sinchana J. and Alavala Nikhitha, who are pursuing a BSC in Fashion Design program at JD Institute of Fashion Technology Bangalore, came up with the collection “Levitating Winter Wonderland,” where she has tried to blend dreams and reality. A scene wherein snowflakes levitate instead of falling—it’s a sight so magical that one will be awestruck. Levitating Winter Wonderland is all about bringing that magic into real life. It’s a high-fashion statement that makes one’s head turn!

The calm beauty and stark contrasts of a snow-covered landscape are what influenced “Levitating Winter Wonderland.” Think winter and a landscape covered in glistening snowflakes, trees dipped in icing, and frozen lakes; everything is so still and magical! That’s exactly this collection, made with light, flowy fabrics like organza, Jimmy Choo organza, and satin materials that resemble the lightness of snowflakes. It gives depth to the outfits and makes them look like they are levitating.

Thus, the silhouettes in this collection represent the combination of volume and structure, which creates an impression of movement and exquisite design. The designers have put into manufacturing clothes that are a portrayal of a fairy-tale winter, and several layers give it that appeal. Every garment is intended for psychological treatment in stylish novices and participants in prestigious ceremonies. It is for the desiring and pioneering audience who view fashion as an art, as a manifestation of the winter’s sorcery and the dream-like essence.

Levitating Winter Wonderland” accurately reflects the name of the carnival as it combines the idea of a winter fairy tale and opposites, gravity included. The subconscious was the guiding theme of the collection; the idea was borrowed from cameralism, specifically the phenomenon of levitation, familiar to every child, based on which unexpected things that inspire awe were created. This theme is seen in the choice of light fabric materials that give the feeling that the models are almost floating in the clothes they are wearing. The shades of silver used also give a certain classy and glamorous feel that complements the overall theme of fairy-like touches in the clothes presented in the collection.

Thus, the choice of colors is decisive in portraying the spirit of this particular theme. The use of Pantone colors such as Larkspur, Bright Whites, Sedona Sage, and Petit Four gives the feeling of winter, although magical. These colors, accompanied by the light tissues, make this an elegant and alien-like collection. Positioned as a couture line, this concept is created for clients who prefer balanced aesthetics and comfort, which are suitable for ceremonial purposes and important occasions.
