SwitchPlay: Transformative Gaming Room – JD Design Awards 2024
Siddharth Gugaliya is a student pursuing an MSc in Interior Design at JD School of Design, Bangalore. He has recently been awarded the Best Virtual Experience at the JD Design Award 2024. The Transformative Gaming Room is a project where he shows the ability to enhance the aesthetic aspect with functionality. This project was conceived for a professional esports player and his team. It refers to one of the significant aspects of the show—the opportunities and challenges of modern urbanised life that Siddharth handles.
ILLUSTRATIONS
The concept involved in the project, Transformative Gaming Room, focuses on the spatial challenge of a small urban apartment where a professional esports player and team dwell. Siddharth’s design combines a bedroom with a room that can easily become a gaming area. The most significant feature is a horizontal, foldable bed that, when folded up, reveals a gaming console. Adjustable flushing seating and a false ceiling for housing gaming equipment add to the utilisation of space without compromising on comfort.
Sound installation and lighting systems offer dynamism in the training sessions, making the hall suitable for such a purpose. Through the redesign of this house, Siddharth was able to infuse modernism in a futuristic manner and has worked as a team to achieve esports like the athletes for the competition.

In the future, living spaces will be limited, integrated, and sophisticated in Siddharth’s transformative gaming room. With elements like simplicity, modernism, and futuristic automation, this project turns a bedroom into a video game room with just the flick of a switch. Devices such as the wheel of motorised furniture and intricate lighting and acoustics make it hard to distinguish the gaming reality from the real one. The division of desks enhances interaction among people since recent interactions mimic a time when experiences are shared regardless of location.
Siddharth’s design features sleek matte finishes, brushed metal, polished concrete, and futuristic accents like LED strips and translucent acrylic panels. These features and comfortable, lavish seats give the rooms a sleek and contemporary look. High-tech and futuristic, the Transformative Gaming Room provides an insight into how future metropolitan life might look regarding engineered space for living, working, and entertainment within small areas.
