“Blossom” display, was a remarkable showcase that indeed embodied the great power of design to make spaces inclusive and accessible for people with special needs. Curated by talented students of the 2022 batch of BSc Interior Design & Decoration, the exhibit captures the essence of user-centred design through ideas providing innovative solutions for quite unique barriers that people might face in their lives because of their varied abilities.

The “Blossom” display was a vibrant space in which thoughtful design met real-world applications. The design aspects like adaptive furniture, acoustic materials, and sensory enrichments were exhibited in real-scale prototypes. All the prototypes provided solutions intended for comfort, independence, and safety. The process of exploring the different material options together with the interactive demonstration introduced the idea of using different textures and finishes in creating sensory-friendly spaces.

One of the most striking features of the exhibit was the creative engagement of sensory experiences through design.

Connecting schemes of calming and energizing colour with textured surfaces that stimulate the sense of touch, the students demonstrated how interiors could be tailored to the specific sensory needs of individuals. Demonstrations of acoustic materials further underlined the role of control of sound in settings for those who might find noise levels irritating, demonstrating how the right materials can dramatically enhance comfort and functionality.

The general theme of “Blossom” was inclusivity. Every single detail in the exhibition was designed to show how design improves the quality of life, either as a means of creating mobility-friendly spaces or by harnessing technology to aid in everyday routines. From the mobility furniture to the wide passages which allow wheelchairs to pass through, the exhibition claimed to understand the problems surrounding mobility impairments and how good designs can afford such users independence.

The event was thus very effective in promoting meaningful discussions regarding the very role that designers play in creating spaces that are accessible to all, regardless of ability. The “Blossom” display is just one example of how designing inclusively can change lives, reminding us that design certainly blooms into something transformational for all.
