The workshop had been organised to instil a sense of curiosity, creativity, and excitement in prospective students.
At the beginning of any programme, it is important to ease students into the culture and concepts in a fun and interactive manner. That is just what was done here at JD School of Design, where an engaging orientation workshop was conducted for our BSc in Interior Design and Decoration.
Orientation Workshop
Students were empowered with various activities that would probe their artistic creative interests in the profession and instil a passion for interior design. This was a workshop to have a glimpse into the creative and technical spectrum of interior design, held on July 12th. Through these activities, students were made to explore their creative streak, understand basic principles of design, and develop an interest in the subject.
It consisted of different designs, including:
Management of decoration types of work activities: pebble art, string art, clock making, newspaper artwork, pop-up greeting cards, Madhubani art, Kirigami, and bamboo light structures. This helped the students:
- Develop their artistic skills
- Increase creativity and problem-solving
- Develop an eye for composition and design
- Increased fine and gross motor skills and patience
- Increased creativity and problem-solving
- Improved technical skills
- Developed spatial awareness and precision
- Understand the mechanics of timepieces
- Understand design principles
- Appreciate cultural heritage
Design Thinking Activities, including the Empathy Sheet, Define Sheet, Ideate Sheet, Prototype Model Picture and Feedback Sheet, helped students
- Building empathy for users.
- Improving observation and listening skills to understand needs,
- Refining problem-solving skills to create clear design challenges.
- Encouraging creative thinking and brainstorming to come up with diverse solutions.
- Exploring diverse solutions
- Refining prototyping and model-making skills,
- Understanding the iterative nature of design
- Creating physical models to test and visualise design ideas
- Learning to articulate design challenges clearly
- Encouraging creative thinking and brainstorming
- Refining design solutions based on user input
- Learning to incorporate feedback to refine design solutions based on user input.
The projects on display were bursting with vibrancy, colour and creativity. Some unique ideas were seen, which gave a comprehensive introduction to various creative
techniques and design thinking processes. These activities are directly connected with Interior design due to their allegiance with:
- By exploring different art forms and materials, students learn to think uniquely and come up with innovative design solutions
- Projects which highlight the importance of sustainable practices in design.
- Cultural Appreciation
It involves hands-on activities and problem-solving skills in order to be able to deal with complex design challenges.
Orientation Workshop was successfully conducted at JD School of Design, laying a strong foundation for the students to have a great start for their design journey, getting equipped with the skills, knowledge, and creativity necessary to excel in the particular task field of Interior Design.
The entire workshop aims to provide students with an overview of all design thinking and creative techniques in interior design that would further enhance their understanding of creativity, innovation, sustainability, cultural appreciation, practical skills, and problem-solving.
An orientation workshop was conducted for the students to begin their design journey armed with knowledge, creativity, and practical skills so that they could excel in the ever-evolving career of interior design.
